Chickahominy Lake Fishing Report – August 26, 2015

Capt. Art Conway of Conway’s River Rat Guide Service (804-746-2475) out of Ed Allen’s Boats and Bait reported that Chickahominy Lake mid-day water temperatures were in the low 80’s in the main lake on Wednesday (8/26/2015). The lake level was about even with the top of the dam. The water was light to moderately brown and moderately cloudy in the lower lake.

Blue cats and a few bullheads were scattered throughout the lake and were hitting live minnows and cut bait. Moderate numbers of crappie were in loose schools in the main lake on deeper flats and channel edges, usually at depths of 6 to 12 feet. A few crappie were scattered singly or in small schools on shallow to mid-depth cypress knees, wood cover, and shoreline weed beds in the main lake and in mouths of major creeks. Active crappie were hitting live minnows, Wright Bait Co. curlytail jigs, small tubes, Kalin crappie scrubs, and small swim baits. Some small to medium yellow perch were scattered on main lake shoreline flats and were hitting live minnows and small jigs. Some nice bluegill and shellcracker along with numerous smaller bluegill were in small loose aggregates and scattered along shorelines and cypress trees and just out from shorelines in the main lake and were hitting live crickets and worms, flies, and small tubes and jigs. We may possibly get another small bluegill spawn on the upcoming full moon. Some bass and pickerel were on lily pad flats and along shorelines in lower reaches of major creeks and in shallow bays and some shorelines in the main lake, while other bass and a few pickerel were on deeper flats and channel edges in the main lake. Bass and pickerel were hitting live minnows, spinnerbaits, swim baits, stick worms, and jigs, with some topwater action early on many days.

Fishing with Capt. Conway, Tom Porter had 33 bluegill, 3 crappie, 1 gar, and 2 bass. David and Jacob Madren had 6 crappie and 1 bullhead. Scott and Ellen Agner and Carolyn Conway had 24 bluegill, 1 shellcracker, 1 yellow perch, and 3 bass.

Fishing with Capt. Conway, Brad Reynolds and Karson and Aydan Kirby and Carolyn Conway had 22 bluegill and 2 shellcracker. Malcolm Turnbull had 60 bluegill, 1 shellcracker, and 1 yellow perch.

The lake level was several inches above the top of the dam. The water was light brown and moderately cloudy in the lower lake.

Blue cats and a few bullheads were scattered throughout the lake and were hitting live minnows and cut bait. Moderate numbers of crappie were in loose schools in the main lake on deeper flats and channel edges, usually at depths of 6 to 12 feet. A few crappie were scattered singly or in small schools on shallow to mid-depth cypress knees, wood cover, and shoreline weed beds in the main lake and in mouths of major creeks. Active crappie were hitting live minnows, Wright Bait Co. curlytail jigs, small tubes, Kalin crappie scrubs, and small swim baits. Fishing with Capt. Conway, Curt Heimbach had 5 bluegill, 8 crappie, 4 bass, 1 blue cat, and 1 gar. Karen Anderson had 14 bluegill, 1 shellcracker, 2 crappie, and 1 gar. Joel and Josh Silverman had 29 bluegill. Marian and Sam Moody had 8 bluegill, 1 shellcracker, 10 crappie, 1 roach minnow, 1 striped bass, and 1 gar. Tom Porter had 8 bluegill and 9 crappie.

The lake level was about even with the top of the dam. The water was moderately brown and moderately cloudy in the lower lake.

Blue cats were scattered throughout the lake and creeks and were hitting live minnows and cut bait. Moderate numbers of crappie were in loose schools in the main lake on deeper flats and channel edges, usually at depths of 6 to 12 feet. A few crappie were scattered singly or in small schools on shallow to mid-depth cypress knees, wood cover, and shoreline weed beds in the main lake and in mouths of major creeks. Active crappie were hitting live minnows, Wright Bait Co. curlytail jigs, small tubes, Kalin crappie scrubs, and small swim baits. The lake level was about even with the top of the dam. The water was moderately brown and moderately cloudy in the lower lake.

Blue cats were scattered throughout the lake and creeks and were hitting live minnows and cut bait. Moderate numbers of crappie were in loose schools in the main lake on deeper flats and channel edges, usually at depths of 6 to 12 feet. A few crappie were scattered singly or in small schools on shallow to mid-depth cypress knees, wood cover, and shoreline weed beds in the main lake and in mouths of major creeks. Some crappie were in loose schools in the main lake on flats and channel edges, frequently near creek mouths, usually at depths of 6 to 12 feet. Active crappie were hitting live minnows, Wright Bait Co. curlytail jigs, small tubes, Kalin crappie scrubs, and small swim baits. Chickahominy Lake Fishing Report – May 13, 2015

Capt. Art Conway of Conway’s River Rat Guide Service (804-746-2475) out of Ed Allen’s Boats and Bait reported that Chickahominy Lake mid-day water temperatures were in the high 70’s in the main lake and the high 70’s to low 80’s in the major creeks on Wednesday (5/13/2015). The lake level was slightly above the top of the dam. The water was moderately brown and very slightly cloudy in the lower lake.

Blue cats were scattered throughout the lake and creeks and were hitting live minnows and cut bait. Crappie were in several different patterns and were biting moderately aggressively. Some crappie were in loose schools in the main lake on flats and channel edges, frequently near creek mouths, usually at depths of 6 to 12 feet. A moderate number of crappie were scattered or in small schools on shallow to mid-depth cypress knees, wood cover, and shoreline weed beds in the main lake and in mouths of major creeks. A few crappie were in the major creeks scattered along the channels. Active crappie were hitting live minnows, Wright Bait Co. curlytail jigs, small tubes, Kalin crappie scrubs, and small swim baits. Some nice yellow perch were in loose aggregates in some creeks and on main lake shoreline flats and were hitting live minnows and small jigs. Bluegill were still accumulated near shorelines in some areas of major creeks and the main lake and were hitting live crickets and worms, flies, and small jigs. Some bass and pickerel were on lily pad flats and along shorelines in major creeks and in shallow bays in the main lake and were hitting live minnows, spinnerbaits, swim baits, stick worms, and jigs.

Fishing with Capt. Conway, Mickey Cleveland had 18 bluegill, 6 crappie, 1 bass, and 1 blue cat. Karen Anderson and Maggie Billingslea had 31 bluegill, 1 shellcracker, 3 crappie, 4 yellow perch, and 1 bass. Tom Porter had 27 bluegill, 1 shellcracker, 6 crappie, and 1 yellow perch.
